What is merseyEngravings?
This site presents scenes from 18th century Liverpool taken from the book

together with early 19th century scenes and commentary taken from the book
Lancashire Illustrated, S. Austin, by J. Harwood and G. and C. Pyne, Pub. by Fisher, Son and Jackson, London, 1831
merseyEngravings is an amazing resource that will fascinate anyone remotely interested in local history. It gives a vivid impression of the appearance of the city and surrounding region 200 years ago and how it was perceived by a contemporary writer. Liverpool is often touted as an architectural showcase, but be prepared to experience regret that so many wonderful buildings have been lost.
