The Mersey and the Irish Sea
On the right bank, Toxteth is in the foreground with the centre of Liverpool behind and then the Irish Sea coast out to Formby Point. The left bank begins at Bromborough Pool with the waters of the East and West Floats (Birkenhead Docks) further back; millennia ago this was the path of the Mersey to the sea, which is quite easy to imagine in this photo. The estuary ends at New Brighton, where the coast turns sharp south-west towards Leasowe.

The Liverpool waterfront buildings can be seen on the right here. On the left is the riverside from Tranmere to New Brighton.
New Brighton
Egremont Promenade along the riverside, Vale Park, New Brighton lighthouse and the marine lake are clearly visible on the left. Top right is the Royal Seaforth Dock.
New Brighton
This view shows the beaches at New Brighton, Perch Rock, the marine lake and Vale Park. The Isle of Man Sea Cat is powering up the river. Top left are some of the North Liverpool Docks (the large ones on the left are Canada and Huskisson Docks).
