Pubs of Character in Liverpool, Merseyside and the Wirral
What is merseyPubs?
This site contains illustrated descriptions of my favourite pubs in the extended Merseyside area. What constitutes a really good pub is always going to be hotly disputed and ultimately subjective. My preference is largely for traditional pubs with interesting interiors that retain something of their original character. The availability of good quality real ale is normally also a prerequisite. Loud music or other obtrusive technology will, on the other hand, usually exclude an establishment. However, there will always be exceptions for good reasons, perhaps an unusual location, architectural interest or exceptional products or services.
The site is admittedly embryonic at the moment, but I will keep adding to it gradually, liver and bank balance permitting! I have avoided ephemeral information, such as details of menus or which beers are stocked. If you have spotted any errors, can contribute fresh information or just want to share your thoughts or memories, please let me know; anything used will be acknowledged. For contact details, see the allertonOak home page.
Many of the pubs are visited by walks described in merseyWalks, which describes the best walks in the area. For much more information and more pictures visit merseySights. Also, be sure not to miss the aerial photography in merseyFlights.
